Distribution of CCR5 Δ32 HIV-1 resistance allele frequency at Zanjan province in Iran

چکیده

Introduction: The CC chemokine receptor 5 (CCR5) is known as the main co-receptor in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Accumulating evidence verified 32bp deletion both alleles of CCR5 provides natural resistance to HIV Accordingly, recent therapeutic approaches are based on gene and cell therapies by inducing this resistance. Allogeneic transplantation stem cells with CCR5Δ32 homozygous infected people has been considered an efficient strategy. Objectives: aim study was determine Δ32 mutation frequency healthy HIV-infected individuals Zanjan province, Iran also detecting appropriate candidate for future approaches. Patients Methods: In study, blood samples were collected from 102 patients 204 controls ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid (EDTA) pre-coated tubes. DNA extraction performed analyzed GAP-PCR groups followed 2% gel agarose electrophoresis. genotype statistically determined. Results: Our finding demonstrated that 3 displayed mutation, while showed one Δ32/Δ32 homozygote mutation. We observed 0.82% province (χ 2 =47.58, P <0.001). Conclusion: Reduction well other polymorphisms related resistance, can lead development infection epidemiology. Migration, selection genetic admixture elucidate various distribution allele different populations, like north Europeans reduce gradually south. result facilitate presentation suitable donors

The Geographic Spread of the CCR5 Δ32 HIV-Resistance Allele

The Delta32 mutation at the CCR5 locus is a well-studied example of natural selection acting in humans. The mutation is found principally in Europe and western Asia, with higher frequencies generally in the north. Homozygous carriers of the Delta32 mutation are resistant to HIV-1 infection because the mutation prevents functional expression of the CCR5 chemokine receptor normally used by HIV-1 ...

Background and Objective: CCR5 is known as a main co-receptor in HIV infection. Many studies demonstrated that 32bp deletion in both CCR5 alleles provide natural resistance to HIV infection, so new treatment approaches are based on inducing this resistance by means of gene and cell therapies. This projects aim was the discovery of suitable candidates for new therapeutic strategies in addition t...

HIV-1 Infection in Persons Homozygous for CCR5-Δ32 Allele: The Next Case and the Review.

CC-chemokine receptor 5 serves as the coreceptor for the HIV-1 R5 strains, which are responsible for the majority of HIV transmissions. A deletion of 32 nucleotides in the gene encoding this receptor (termed CCR5-Δ32) leads to the suppression of CC-chemokine receptor 5 presentation at the cell surface, thus impeding process of HIV entry into the cell. Individuals homozygous for the CCR5-Δ32 all...

The Case for Selection at CCR5-Δ32

The C-C chemokine receptor 5, 32 base-pair deletion (CCR5-Delta32) allele confers strong resistance to infection by the AIDS virus HIV. Previous studies have suggested that CCR5-Delta32 arose within the past 1,000 y and rose to its present high frequency (5%-14%) in Europe as a result of strong positive selection, perhaps by such selective agents as the bubonic plague or smallpox during the Mid...
